The reason I don't rate this as a 5 is that I was able to deduce what trick was going to be about 15 seconds into solving it. Knowing the trick and what position you needed to reach in order to apply the trick, greatly simplified the task making it significantly easier than its indicated difficulty rating. If you don't figure out the trick and instead stumble upon it by accident, then the difficulty rating is probably about right. Still, it is a neat puzzle.
Very challenging at first, then when you have solved it, it's easy(er) to redo it. The key is to think outside the box (or the disc, in that case!). In some spots, the little pins don't slide as easily in the maze, due to some rough areas in the casting, but it kind of erodes away after some time. It's a pleasure watching our friends and guests sweat and squirm while trying to solve it. How can something so simple be so devilish to solve?!? Very recommended!
AMAZING!!!! Difficult, yet enjoyable. Highly recommend it.
This is a fun maze puzzle. With a little time and thought it is possible to take it apart. Not easy, but not the hardest out there. The real challenge is to shuffle the pieces, wait awhile and then attempt to reassemble. It may not be as easy as you think.
I gave it four stars instead of three just because it is a remake of a classic puzzle, which is a nice idea. But it's pretty basic, just two simple mazes connected together. So there is no question about being able to solve it as long as you're methodical. Kind of a snoozer.
yup its hard. construction is excellent. no way to cheat. multi-dimensional. try solving a maze while at the same time you are solving a separate maze, but they're connected. ingenious.
Mark one side of the slider with a dot from a sharpy. Just a 2 sided maze with a twist
I started trying to solve this one by alternating looks at each side as the pins encountered obstructions. But eventually I focused on one side only, and found the correct procedure, which I always solve on that side. Thinking outside the disc made the solution easier.
I solved it completely yesterday. I found the right way out the day before, but made a mistake when assembling again. But it deserves to be level 5 from the series (or 9, as rated here).
Another fantastic puzzle from Hanayama. I marvel over the thought that went in to making this thing a reality. I haven't even solved this yet, but my family has been puzzling over it for a few days now. My favourite puzzles are the ones I can't solve easily, so this gets a well-earned 5 star rating.
I love mazes so this was a natural. There is a methode to the madness. Use a dab of nail polish to distinguish the side near the pins. This will break it down to the two side with less trial and error. A bit of force (a little bit) is need to swing the slider over the maze at a couple of points. Took an hour. Putting it back was easy as I had marked the side or I would have had twice the trouble.
I managed to get it apart after 3 hours and back again in 10 min. But the next time i tryed i used 4 days before i was able to solve it again. I tryed to use logic but it didnt work. I had to go back to basic and solve it thinking one side at a time. One of the best puzzles i have. And you dont need to use force on it. Jonny
I have had it for 4 days now, I used the good old trial and error method and managed to take it apart and put it back again the first 3 hours. But now to figure out how I did it, has me struggling again. But it is a very good puzzle to recommend.
A very fun and intriguing puzzle that requires the solver to see both sides at the same time. And think about the way to move the two pins that are constantly hindering each other's progress. The solution is fairly hard for this one. It looks like a maze-type puzzle, but the states are not so easily told apart, so it's somewhere between maze-types and free-types. It is not so tough like other Hanayamas but it does not need to be forced, so physical quality is just okay. It also has multiple entry and exit points to and from the labyrinth, leaving the choice up to the solver. But many of them are just red herrings.
Nice puzzle, challenging but not "gruelling", too bad that the small pins are eroding quickly and i saw a person brute forcing his way out...
Borrowed this one from a friend. I spent a few hours on it and simply decided it wasn't worth trying to figure out. I may be wrong, but it seemed to be a lot like trial and erro.
I didn't think I was going to like this one, but the owner of the puzzle shop I visit recommended it. The solution was satisfying and I enjoyed the process. I think it took me a little over an hour to take apart, and about a minute to put back together, mainly because I paid close attention to what I was doing. It is non-trivial to reassemble if you don't remember how you got it apart.
A satisfyingly difficulty puzzle. Unlike the Enigma (realistically, a level 20), this is closer to a 6 in my books, even though it's ranked as 5. For this kind of puzzle, I like to ignore the action on the opposite side while keeping some arbitrary mark always held due north. The advantage is simplification; however, solving it the other way around becomes a new challenge.
Still playing with this one...a good solid fun puzzle.
Nice puzzle, it took 2 hours to disassembe and about 3 minutes to put it back.
It took about 2 hours to disasseble, and about 3 minutes to put it back.
It took me about 1 hour to disassemble. I[m still trying to bring it back to it's original form. :)
Each face is a trivial maze, how hard could it be? Turns out to be quite difficult. Solving both mazes at once will test your spatial perception to the max. I eventually convinced myself it was impossible to solve, then the trick dawned on me. But a year later I cannot remember the solution!
