This was my very first Hanayama puzzle and I found it to be fairly challenging. But once I solved it, I was always able to assemble and disassemble it. The design is rather cute, though I think it’d be better without the cake writing even if that helped me navigate it. You can carry it in your pocket and always be impressed by how neat the solution is and how it only works in that one configuration.
This is one of my personal favorite puzzles in my collection. The best tip I can give you is to pay attention to the three distinct points.
I don't like the cheesy script engraved name, but otherwise it's a good looking puzzle with a nice weight and feel. It is a bit tricky to handle, but that's fine with me - it's a good balance of dexterity and logic. The solution is neat, but maybe not difficult enough to warrant this rating. Call it a seven in my book.
This is one of my all time favorites from Hanayama! Nothing is hidden, there's no trickery involved, and yet it still provides a good amount of frustration (I would rate it one level higher in difficulty). Several features of the puzzle don't seem to be significant at all, but upon closer inspection (and with a good idea of what you are trying to accomplish) it all makes sense in a great "Aha!" moment. I also like how the puzzle has some mathematical properties about it.. really gives some depth and instigates deeper thinking. Needless to say, it's not one that will be easily solved by accident. One of the best Hanayamas out there and a must-have for your collection!
These are my favorite types of puzzles. There are only a couple moving pieces and very limited things you can do to each piece which makes the solution very clever. My one criticism is even if you know what yo are trying to do it's very difficult to actually maneuver the pieces how you want them.
This one was a little difficult, so I yielded to temptation and downloaded the solution. Be advised that the given solution, while it may work with a bit of trouble, is not the best. If you use it, reverse the order of the bottom two disks in the diagram, and you will see it is much better. But try to solve it without directions, and you will see how simple the solution really is. I like this one, it is well designed and fun to fiddle with.
I am a little perplex with this puzzle because I don't understand well why people are so enthusiast with it. It looks great but the solution is obvious but not tricky at all and moreover it is difficult to manipulate ( you can easily catch your finger between layer and it hurts!). I didn't have fun at all solving this one, but at least it was short...
Gave this as a stocking stuffer and all my family played with it over 3 days. It’s a fun one to hold and fiddle around with even while doing other things, so was popular. 3 people solved it independently, but it certainly wasn’t easy. What all liked about it was its simplicity, its higher difficulty and that they could solve it through some deduction and lots of time. We have almost all of the Hanayama puzzles and this has joined the favourites!
I found it harder than I expected. The solution was not what I imagined and I was amazed when I found it - very unexpected! If you play with it for a long time, you might eliminate other possibilities and find the solution yourself, which I believe cannot be found by chance. Once again, level 4 (8 here) Cast puzzle with a logic required to be solved. Maybe that is what their level 4 stands for!
