Product Info

The Kumiki Airplane shape brain teaser wooden puzzle contains 11 non identical pieces that designed to resemble a airplane.
In Japanese the word kumiki means "joining wood together" and refers to varieties of wood craft. In the puzzling world it refers to 3D interlocking wood puzzle that resembled a familiar shape like buildings, vehicles and animals, not just abstract shapes like spheres and cubes.
Tsunetaro Yamanaka (1874-1954) from Japan was the first craftsman to develop the figural wooden interlocking puzzles known as kumiki.

This is a well-made, very cute and fun puzzle/desk ornament. I think the difficulty rating of 8/10 is a bit overstated. I would call this a 6-7. There aren't a lot of pieces to disassemble but the woodworking is well done and the wood is quite attractive (it might even take a nice shine with some polishing and wood oil) for the very reasonable price. The assembled plane is fairly sturdy and is very unlikely to accidentally come apart. This is my first kumiki puzzle and makes for a good entry into the genre. I have only 2 small gripes about cosmetic issues that don't affect the solving of the puzzle. One is that one of the wheels on my puzzle freely rotates, but the other is stuck in place. The other is that the propeller (which also freely rotates, yay!) is situated off center, which could be fixed by an easy alteration in the design of one of the pieces. These issues slightly mar an otherwise aesthetically perfect puzzle. Also worth mentioning is that my puzzle was slightly different than the one pictured; mine has no metal rivets and instead is 100% wood. Good or bad depending on your tastes, but I like the all wooden construction. Highly recommended!
